Returning airman surprises football-playing son by dressing up like a player on the other team

This past fall, Master Sergeant Joseph Martel returned from Afghanistan to Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany a month earlier than expected. After meeting his wife at the airport, they made the 2.5-hour trip to their son’s international school in Brussels to watch his football game.

But Martel added a twist — He watched the game from the sideline of the opposing team, wearing their gear.

  1. Brought complete tears to my eyes…My son’s fathers have never wanted anything to do with them. They have assaulted me for years. This is the way I grew up with a Wonderful father. How I prayed that my son’s had the same. Just didn’t work out that way..So I have been both and it has been hard but I have 2 Beautiful, morally sound, Great young men, My son’s!
